César Barrio Amorós, New Editor for Latin America at Responsible Herpetoculture Journal

We are pleased to announce that César Barrio Amorós, Scientific Director of CRWild, has been appointed as the editor for Latin America for the prestigious international journal on herpetology and herpetoculture, Responsible Herpetoculture Journal (RHJ). With this new position, César will bring his vast experience and dedication to the conservation of neotropical herpetofauna, enriching the journal with more articles about the Latin American region.

César, who has lived in Costa Rica since 2011, has been involved in multiple conservation projects and has an extensive background in studying herpetological fauna across several Latin American countries. In addition to his role as director at CRWild, he has contributed over 250 publications in the field of herpetology.

In the most recent edition of the RHJ, César has shared a detailed article about the variable harlequin toad (Atelopus varius) in Costa Rica, titled "The Variable Harlequin Toad in Costa Rica: Raising Hope or Threatened with Extinction?". In this article, he explores the tragic decline of this species and the few populations that still survive, emphasizing the importance of ongoing conservation efforts and the need for more effective and ethical monitoring.

The article provides a comprehensive look at the challenges these populations face, from habitat destruction to threats from diseases like chytridiomycosis. César highlights the discovery of new populations and the importance of modern technologies and citizen science applications that aid in the conservation of these critically endangered species.

You can read César's complete article at the following link to the RHJ: Subscribe and read.

We look forward to seeing more significant contributions from César and other experts in the region, and we are excited about how his leadership will influence herpetology and herpetoculture in Latin America.
