One of the most iconic views in Costa Rica is the majestic Arenal volcano (sleeping during the last 10 years). Still, an area surrounded by forests, lakes and beautiful waterfalls, full of herps to see.
Nocturnal walks will surprise you with the abundance of eyelash vipers (Bothriechis schlegelii) of many varieties, the famous jumping pitviper (Metlapilcoatlus mexicanus), land snakes (Geophis spp.), snail eaters (Sibon nebulatus, longifrenis, annulatus, lamari) and false coral snakes (Lampropeltis polyzona, Oxyrhopus petolarius), but also with many frogs as Agalychnis callidryas “Caribbean”, Tlalocohyla loquac, and many species of glassfrogs (Centrolenidae).
