Monteverde Herping
Lush Cloud Forest
Night Herping Tour

Bothriechis schlegelii.jpg

Monteverde!

The name itself remains of a Green forest. And is what is, one of the best guarded and bigger natural forests in the country. Monteverde, laying in the Tilaran mountain chain, face both versants, the Atlantic and the Pacific, with the logic increase of species diversity. Despite being sadly famous among biologists because there is where the infamous fungus infection was first reported in the eighties and early nineties, and many species of amphibians suffered declination, nowadays many of those species are recovering, and Monteverde is proud of its cloud forests and high diversity in birds and herps.

Meet the top herping guides and check out for rare species of amphibians such as Duellmanohyla uranochroa, Isthomyhla rivularis and Bolitoglossa robusta (the largest Neotropical salamander), or the most beautiful population of Bothriechis lateralis (with yellow spots) known to date.
