Exploring the Central Valley's Unique

Wildlife in Costa Rica

Costa Rica has many touristic destinations, usually close to beaches or rainforests, volcanoes or National parks, but not many in its capital San José or immediate surroundings.

Those herpers that come to Costa Rica with something in mind usually avoid the central valley and go directly to the Caribbean or Pacific destinations.

But the central valley, especially because the altitude and cloud forests around, harbors several super interesting species that will attract the attention of many.

That would be the best option at the beginning or the end of your stay in Costa Rica, as usually those animals can be seen during one day or night.

Here we offer you the possibilities to find species as emblematic as Bothriechis lateralis, B. nigroviridis, Bothrops asper, Bothriechis schlegelii, Atropoides picadoi, Bolitoglossa subpalmata, Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni, or Agalychnis annae.
